Testimonials
“When I learned of the opportunity to live in Indonesia for the summer, I found that most of my friends and acquaintances lacked even the most basic knowledge of Indonesia from asking me questions such as where it was located on the globe and what language was spoken there. It’s hard to believe how ignorant we are here in the U.S. about even the most basic information about Indonesia. However, even though I had some background knowledge from my parents, I discovered shortly after arriving that I didn’t fare much better than my friends. During my stay, my eyes were opened to how big and important Indonesia really is. I learned Indonesia has one of the world’s largest economies and is the fourth most populous country in the world. Through the experience provided by the USINDO Summer Studies program to live in this country, I have grown to love this country and expect to return soon.”

“The USINDO program allowed me to spend 2.5 months in a country learning about an entirely new culture. It introduced me to a different part of the world through classes, field trips, internships, and living with a host family. This year USINDO partnered with PCMI and it definitely enriched the experience. Everyone involved with the program was friendly, enthusiastic and helpful during our stay in Indonesia. I would recommend this program to anyone who would like to learn more about the country of Indonesia and its’ people.”

“To me, Indonesia is family, friends. Indonesia is beauty, and mountains, and tropical beaches. What makes it so amazing is definitely the people. Strangers will create small talk with you and make you feel significant, even on a bad day. Neighbors will invite you for dinner and sweets for no reason but just to be kind and affectionate. Elders and adults treat you on the same level as them. Leaving the country was definitely hard for all of these reasons, including the number of amazing friends I made over the course of 2 and a half months. Going on this trip to Yogyakarta, Indonesia with the USINDO Summer Language Study Program may have been the best decision I have made. Without a doubt, it was the best 2.5-3 months of my life.”
