Ambassador and Minister Mohammad Lutfi

Ambassador Lutfi has been the 20th Indonesian Ambassador to the United States since September 2020. From December 2020 he has also served as Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, his second appointment as Minister of Trade. During his tenure in the U.S., he played a key role in vitalizing bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United States.   During his tenure in the U.S., Ambassador Lutfi helped obtain U.S. agreement to extend the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) trade facility for Indonesia. In investment, together with Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, he helped secure the signing of a letter of intent by the IDFC to invest a total of $2 billion in Indonesia’s new Sovereign Wealth Fund. Both governments also signed a $750 million Memorandum of Understanding on infrastructure and trade funding. The event will begin with remarks by USINDO and Acting Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian And Pacific Affairs and U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Ambassador Sung Kim. These will be followed by Ambassador Lutfi’s remarks, and a brief Q and A session.
