ASEAN Beyond 2015
In 2003, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) produced the Bali Concord II, which initiated the ASEAN Economic Community, a bold, pragmatic and unified strategy to integrate the economies of East Asia through the East Asian Summit (EAS). President Barack Obama plans to attend the East Asia Summit in October 2011 with the promise of cooperation with the EAS on its agenda and initiatives.
When Bali III is announced later this year, it will be a milestone achievement for the global economic community as it constructs a new paradigm of economic cooperation and a common platform on global issues.
Join Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, ASEAN’s Secretary General as he discusses the investment potential arising from this new economic governance construct and the role of ASEAN in steering economic and political stability in the region and beyond. In conversation with Ann Marie Murphy, Associate Professor, John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Seton Hall University and adjunct research scholar at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University.
