President Jokowi’s first five months in office have been a time of high hopes for Indonesian governance, reform, and growth. His highly participatory and democratic election and the Indonesian parliament’s evolving role as a check and balance show a deepening of Indonesia’s democratic institutions. President Jokowi has announced his intention to address such long-standing Indonesian development issues as the fuel subsidy (done), increasing tax revenues, improving infrastructure, and enhancing government effectiveness. His ambitious goals have recently encountered the political realities and unanticipated developments that arise for most Presidents early in their terms. This is an excellent time to increase our understanding of President Jokowi’s style of governance, his relations with his party and the parliament, his prospects for progress on his agenda, and the state of Indonesian – U. S. cooperation on bilateral issues.

To deepen our insights about Indonesia under President Jokowi, USINDO is delighted and honored to present United States Ambassador to Indonesia Robert O. Blake, Jr. Ambassador Blake’s informal talk will be followed by Questions and Answers. Please join us for this USINDO Special Event.
