Indonesia Update 2015: Prospect and Progress will discuss the development of democracy and economic growth in Indonesia.  Emphasis will be placed on government transparency, the changed dynamics between parliament and government, and emerging areas of opportunity for Indonesia’s economy to create growth.

The face of democracy in Indonesia is still evolving. Transparency and accountability are growing priorities of the government. Since 2008 Indonesia has encouraged an open government policy with the Transparency of Public Information Law. This has mandated increased government transparency and accountability and created a more responsive governments for Indonesian citizens. How has the explosion of social media furthered the development of democracy and transparency in Indonesia?

Indonesia must also develop a dynamic and productive relationship between the Executive Branch and Parliament, which is becoming more active and powerful. What has been the effect of the enhanced power of the Parliament on the quality of democracy in Indonesia?

Finally, Indonesia has a population of over 250 million people and benefits from a demographic bonus, with the majority population of productive age. How can Indonesia effectively take advantage of this demographic bonus to enhance economic development?
