Anies Baswedan
Anies Baswedan is the 2004-2005 Gerald Maryanov Fellow at the Department of Political Science, Northern Illinois University. He is completing his dissertation on Decentralization and Patterns of Democracy in Indonesia. During his student years at Gadjah Mada University, he was involved in the student movements and was the President of the Student Senate at Gadjah Mada University, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.While a student, he was selected to attend Asian Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.
Upon his graduation in 1995, Mr. Baswedan worked for the Inter University Center on Economic Study at Gadjah Mada University.He was then awarded the Fulbright Scholarship for his Masters at the University of Maryland, College Park (International Economic and Security Policy.During his study, he won the William P. Cole III Fellowship at the Maryland School of Public Policy.He has published articles on decentralization, democracy, and political Islam in Indonesia. Mr. Baswedan’s latest journal article titled Political Islam: Present and Future Trajectory appeared in Asian Survey, a journal published by the Instituteof East Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley.
