Mashita I. Kamilia

Mashita Insani Kamilia, has been a Foreign Service Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2012. In 2016, she will be pursuing her LL.M. degree at the Columbia Unviersity Law School. Upon entering the Ministry, she attended a 9-month mandatory training at the Ministry’s School for Junior Diplomats which was followed by a one month internship at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, one of the busiest Indonesian government representatives abroad. During her internship, she had the opportunity to experience, first-hand, assistance of Indonesian migrant workers facing an array of different issues. Afterwards, she was also part of a select group of students to attend the Clingendael Institute of International Relations where she spent two months with her peers learning various subjects related to international relations and visited many prominent international organizations, such as the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Following this course, she served at the Directorate of Economic, Social and Cultural Treaties where she regularly reviews treaties and international agreements related to economic issues, agriculture, and intellectual property. She was also involved in several negotiations regarding genetic resources, traditional knowledge and folklore (GRTKF) at the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Prior to working at the Ministry, Mashita obtained her Bachelor of Law from Diponegoro University, focusing on international law. She was also an active varsity English debater and adjudicator, having won the national championship in 2008. In her free time, Mashita enjoys reading, writing and playing with her pet cats.
