American Batik Design Competition

To celebrate the new US-Indonesia Partnership, Indonesia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Dino Patti Djalal, is launching a nation-wide competition to design ‘American batik’.

Launched in April 2011 and ending in November 2011, this project is a challenge to US-based designers to craft batik designs with a distinct American style – hence the theme “The spirit of America in the heritage of batik”. A joint panel of American and Indonesian artists will select three best batik designs.

Deadline Extended! New Entry Deadline: August 17th, 2011

The organizers of the American Batik Design Competition have received numerous requests from applicants to postpone the Competition’s submission deadline in order give participants more time to complete their designs. As a result, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and all the Indonesian Consulates in the United Stated are announcing a deadline extension. American Batik Design Competition submissions will now be accepted until August 17, 2011, which also happens to be Indonesia’s independence day. All other Competition regulations and procedures remain unchanged. Looking forward to receiving your American Batik Design entries!
